Season of Discovery (SoD) Runes – Phase 8

Among the many Season of Discovery changes comes one big one. Runes, or Rune Engravings are an additional form of character progression. They can be applied to gear like enchants, and provide unique character abilities independent of your talents.

Each Rune grants a specific ability or passive, and outside of combat can be freely swapped for the other options in the same slot. These abilities range from something like Warbringer, allowing Warriors to Charge in combat, to other things like Regeneration, a healing spell for Mages.

Phase 8

There are no new runes in Phase 8 of Season of Discovery.

Phase 7

While there are no new runes in Phase 7, the new Argent Dawn Shoulder Enchantments function similarly to runes.

Phase 6

As of Phase 6, all runes can now be purchased from Rune Brokers in starting zones and major cities for 1 copper a piece. Each of these vendors is simply named “Rune Broker” and can be easily spotted by their purple glow, lurking very close to where new characters enter the game. Phase 5

While there are no new rune slots for Phase 5 of Season of Discovery, there are two new utility runes for the ring slot.

• Healing Specialization – Increases healing done by spells and effects by up to 26. This effect is not cumulative with other ring runes. Healing Specialization Rune Guide
• Meditation Specialization – Restores 5 mana per 5 sec. This effect is not cumulative with other ring runes. Meditation Specialization Rune Guide

Many existing rune discoveries have been simplified in this phase as well.

Phase 4

Phase 4 of WoW Classic Season of Discovery brings us three new runes for each class in the Cloak slot. Additionally there are also utility runes that are applied to Rings.

Utility Runes

Utility Runes are applied to a ring slot and offer weapon skill, spell hit, and other bonuses. Not that the bonuses cannot be combined either with racial bonuses or other ring slots.

• Defense Specialization – Defense skill increased by 25. Defense Specialization Rune Guide.

  • Axe Specialization – Skill with Axes and Two-Handed Axes increased by 5. Axe Specialization Rune Guide.
  • Dagger Specialization – Skill with Daggers increased by 5. Dagger Specialization Rune Guide.
  • Fist Weapon Specialization – Skill with Fist Weapons increased by 5. Fist Weapon Specialization Rune Guide.
  • Mace Specialization – Skill with Maces and Two-Handed Maces increased by 5. Mace Specialization Rune Guide.

• Spell Hit
  • Arcane Specialization – Chance to hit with Arcane spells increased by 6%. Arcane Specialization Rune Guide.
  • Fire Specialization – Chance to hit with Fire spells increased by 6%. Fire Specialization Rune Guide.
  • Frost Specialization – Chance to hit with Frost spells increased by 6%. Frost Specialization Rune Guide.

  • Nature Specialization – Chance to hit with Nature spells increased by 6%. Nature Specialization Rune Guide.

Druid Runes

• Improved Swipe: Adds the Swipe (Cat) ability and causes Swipe in Bear form to cause 100% increased damage and hit 3 additional targets. Improved Swipe Rune Guide.
• Starfall: The druid calls down a rain of up to 20 falling starts over 10 seconds hitting enemies within 30 yards of the druid for Arcane damage. 90 second cooldown. Cancelled by loss of control effects, mounting, and shapeshifting. Starfall Rune Guide.
• Tree of Life: Transform into a Tree of Life. While active reduces the mana cost of all Heal over Time abilities by 20%, increases healing received by all party members by 10%, increases the Druid’s spirit by 25% and increases the Druids armor by 200%, but the druid may not cast any harmful abilities. There is also the following utility rune in the ring slot only for Druids:

• Feral Combat Specialization – Feral Combat skill increased by 5. Feral Combat Specialization Rune Guide.

Hunter Runes

• Hit and Run: Raptor Strike increases movement speed by 15% for 4 seconds. Hit and Run Rune Guide.
• Improved Volley: Increases Volley damage by 3% of attack power each time it deals damage. Volley also no longer has a cooldown and no longer suffers pushback from damaging attacks against the Hunter and the mana cost of Volley is reduced by 50%. Improved Volley Rune Guide.
• Resourcefulness: Reduces the mana cost of all traps by 100% and their cooldowns by 6 seconds. Resourcefulness Rune Guide.

Mage Runes

• Arcane Barrage: An instant attack dealing high arcane damage. 3 Second Cooldown. Arcane Barrage Rune Guide.
• Frozen Orb: The Mage launches a frost orb that damages nearby enemies and snares them. Can trigger fingers of frost. Frozen Orb Rune Guide.
• Overheat: Fire Blast is now castable while casting another spell, is unaffected by the global cooldown, and always crits. Overheat Rune Guide.

Paladin Runes

• Shield of Righteousness: Slam the target with your shield, causing Holy damage based on your block value. 6 second cooldown. Shield of Righteousness Guide.
• Righteous Vengeance: Your Judgement, Crusader Strike, Divine Storm, and Holy Shock abilities now deal an additional percentage of their damage dealt over 8 seconds. Righteous Vengeance Rune Guide.
• Shock and Awe: You gain 100% of your Intellect as Spell Damage for 1 min when you cast Holy Shock. Shock and Awe Rune Guide.

Priest Runes

• Binding Heal: A fast heal that heals a friendly target and the Priest and deals a low amount of Threat. This spell benefits from and triggers all effects associated with Flash Heal. Binding Heal Rune Guide.
• Soul Warding: Power World: Shield has no cooldown, a reduced mana cost, and increased magnitude. Soul Warding Rune Guide.
• Vampiric Touch: A Damage-over-time effect that grants 2% of damage dealt as mana returned to all party members. Vampiric Touch Guide.

Rogue Runes

• Blunderbuss: Fire a musket blast at enemies in a cone in front of the Rogue, dealing physical damage. Blunderbuss Rune Guide.
• Crimson Tempest: Finishing move that hits all nearby targets with a damage-over-time bleed based on Attack Power. Increased duration and damage per CP. Crimson Tempest Rune Guide.
• Fan of Knives: The Rogue instantly throws both weapons at all targets dealing area effect damage. Fan of Knives Rune Guide.

Shaman Runes

• Coherence: Chain Heal effectiveness only reduced by 35% per jump, Chain Lightning effectiveness only reduced by 20% per jump, and each spell now jumps to one additional target. Coherence Rune Guide.
• Feral Spirit: Summon a pair of temporary spirit wolf guardians for 45 seconds. 3 minute cooldown. Feral Spirit Rune Guide.
• Storm, Earth, and Fire: Chain Lightning cooldown is reduced by 100%, Earthbind Totem immediately immobilizes all enemies when cast, and Flame Shock deals 60% increased periodic damage. Storm, Earth, and Fire Rune Guide.

Warlock Runes

• Decimation: Shadowbolt, Shadow Cleave, Incinerate and Soul Fire damage on targets below 35% health causes your next Soul Fire to not cost a Soul Shard and cast 1.5 seconds faster. 10 Second Duration. Decimation Rune Guide.
• Infernal Armor: For the next 10 seconds, all non-physical damage is reduced by a percentage of your damage reduced from armor. 60 sec cooldown. Infernal Armor Rune Guide.
• Mark of Chaos: Shadowburn causes your next single-target spell or ability to have a 100% increased critical strike chance. Mark of Chaos Rune Guide.

Warrior Runes

• Fresh Meat: Damaging a target with Bloodthirst has a chance to enrage you, activating abilities which require being enraged and cause you to deal 10% increased damage for 12 seconds. 100% chance to proc on first Bloodthirst hit against a target. 10% chance for subsequent hits against that same target. • Shockwave: Cone attack that deals physical damage and stuns all affected enemies for 4 seconds. Requires a Shield and Defensive Stance. 60 sec cooldown. Shockwave Rune Guide.
• Sudden Death: Your melee crits have a chance to activate sudden death for 10 seconds. While Sudden Death is active, you may use Execute on any target, and you always have 10 rage remaining after using execute. Sudden Death Rune Guide.
