Professions Overview for Season of Discovery (SoD) Phase 5

Professions Overview for Season of Discovery (SoD)

Season of Discovery has changed many things when compared to the way vanilla WoW used to be played, and professions are no exception! In Phase 5, most of the changes that occurred in the previous phases remain the same, with players having access to many new recipes and even swapping between specializations. One of the familiar things remaining in Season of Discovery is the maximum level for professions, the Artisan Level, which could be achieved beginning with Phase 3.

Season of Discovery introduced specific level requirements for professions that remain active even in Phase 5! Phase 1 restricts players to a 150 skill level, Phase 2 restricts players to a 225 skill level, and finally, Phase 3 allows players to reach a 300 skill level. Players are required to reach level 26 in order to raise their skill to 225 (Expert Level) and level 41 to raise their skill to 300 (Artisan Level).

Additionally, beginning with Phase 3 of Season of Discovery, players were allowed to pick up the specific questlines for the Profession Specializations! The Season of Discovery also added a twist to the way the vanilla WoW specializations worked, allowing players who have Blacksmithing and Leatherworking to change between specializations for a fee while players with Engineering were able to learn recipes from the opposite specialization, no matter whether they learned Gnomish or Goblin engineering.

Furthermore, Phase 4 has revamped many of the old craftable recipes, allowing players to create enhanced versions by utilizing items found throughout the Molten Core raid and recipes sold by a very skilled Dark Iron Dwarf named Lokhtos Darkbargainer who can be found in Blackrock Depths.

Expanding further on the professions frontier, Phase 5 overhauled the specialization system for Blacksmithing and Leatherworking, allowing players to learn all the possible specializations, including the Weaponsmithing Specializations. This means that the specializations will no longer be mutually exclusive, granting players a far broader spectrum of items to craft.

We’ll go over what that means for each profession in our Season of Discovery profession guides. For a broader look at professions in WoW Classic, check out our WoW Classic Professions Overview.
