- Expansion: WoW Classic
Season of Discovery changes up the Classic WoW meta with lower level caps, which also limits what items you can craft and use. For the Herbalism profession (Herb Gathering), that means you’ll be farming lower level herbs for use in Alchemy recipes.
Herbalism Leveling & Trainers
Check out our Classic Herbalism Guide for trainer locations, a leveling guide, and more. Everything in that guide should apply to Season of Discovery. Just keep in mind that the first 3 phases of Season of Discovery will have lower skill caps, so you won’t be able to level all the way to 300 yet.
Phase 2 Herbalism Skill
The skill cap for professions as of Phase 2 of Season of Discovery is 225, or Expert level. Artisan skills now have a level 41 requirement, so you won’t be able to train that high until Phase 3.
Expert-level gathering professions can be trained at any trainer for that skill, so you don’t have to track down a specific trainer to learn Expert Herb Gathering. Just head to the nearest city and ask a guard for directions.
There are a few ways to increase your Herb Gathering skill beyond the 225 cap:
- Enchant Gloves – Herbalism adds 2 points
- Enchant Gloves – Advanced Herbalism adds 5 points
- Herbalist’s Gloves add 5 points
- The Tauren racial Cultivation adds 15 points
A non-Tauren character who has both the gloves and the Advanced enchantment can reach 235 Herbalism in Phase 2. For Taurens, that cap is 240 without the gloves & enchant or 250 with both.
Phase 2 Herbalism Equipment
There is one piece of equipment that can increase your Herb Gathering skill: Herbalist’s Gloves. These Herbalism gloves can be crafted with a Leatherworking skill of 135. Pattern: Herbalist’s Gloves is sold in limited supply by Harlown Darkweave at Bolyun’s Camp in southwest Ashenvale (18.2, 60.0). Horde will have to buy either the pattern or the gloves themselves off the Auction House. Remember to check the neutral Auction House in Booty Bay if they aren’t available from the main one.
There are also two glove enchantments that can increase your Herbalism skill if you can find someone with the appropriate Enchanting formulas:
- Enchant Gloves – Advanced Herbalism (+5)
- Formula: Enchant Gloves – Herbalism drops from Ancients in Stonetalon Mountains
- Enchant Gloves – Herbalism (+2)
- Formula: Enchant Gloves – Advanced Herbalism drops from Timberlings in Swamp of Sorrows
Phase 2 Herbs to Farm
Thus far, no new herbs have been added in Season of Discovery. Herb Gathering works the same as it did in vanilla World of Warcraft, just with lower level caps.
Alchemists will be looking for all kinds of herbs, so pretty much anything beyond the starting zones should be worth farming. Swiftthistle is particularly valuable but more difficult to farm since you can only get it as a secondary drop from other herb nodes.
Here are all of the herbs you can gather in Phase 2 of Season of Discovery. Click on a node in the “Where to Pick“ column to see maps with spawn locations by zone.
