The Idol of the Heckler is required to learn the Berserk Rune for Druids. This guide will cover where to find the idol as well as how to use it to obtain the rune.

Note that you will need to be level 28 to equip the idol and you will need to have Challenging Roar trained in order to acquire and use it.

Where to Find the Idol of the Heckler

You can get the Idol of the Heckler by heading to the entrance to the Shimmering Flats area of Thousand Needles (68.7, 55.2). Look for a Beastly Effigy, a small statue of a bear’s head. Standing near it will give you the buff Beastly Effigy.

While you have the Beastly Effigy buff, use your Challenging Roar ability. (Don’t waste the ability if you don’t have the buff as it’s on a 10 minute cooldown.) This will summon Zai’enki, a level 28 elite beast. Kill it and you will be able to loot the idol. Zai’enki should be soloable at level 28.

Using the Idol of the Heckler

Once you have the Idol of the Heckler, you’ll need to right-click it to equip it in your relic slot.

With the idol equipped, pull two or more enemies and use your Challenging Roar ability when they are getting close to death. You must kill at least one of them before the taunt expires. Be careful to time this well since Challenging Roar only lasts for six seconds and has a 10 minute cooldown.

A few things to note:

  • You must land the killing blow yourself for it to count.
  • The enemies must both be of a level that will grant you experience (not gray).
  • You must hit at least two mobs with Challenging Roar – resists won’t count.
  • It doesn’t count if the killing blow is from Thorns, so you may want to avoid using it.

If you are successful, you will gain a stack of the Building Inspiration buff. You will need to do this five times, which can be a tedious process due to Challenging Roar‘s long cooldown. If you die or unequip the idol, you will lose all of your stacks and have to start over.

When you reach five stacks of Building Inspiration you will become Inspired, which will allow you to right-click the idol in your character window to learn the Berserk Rune.

Idol of the Heckler Bug

Some players have reported being unable to get stacks of Building Inspiration again after dying. The fix for this seems to be to unequip and then re-equip the idol.
