Extraplanar Spidersilk Boots are one of the craftable Epics added in Season of Discovery. These boots are almost certainly the Best-in-Slot for any Mages, Warlocks, and Priests. Crafting them requires a lengthy quest chain that involves talking to the dead, exploring the depths of Blackfathom Deeps, and visiting an area in Hillsbrad Foothills that few have ever seen.

You will need a handful of items during these quests, but you won’t need them all in one go. This means you could grab what you can get your hands on to start, and get the rest as needed.

The full list of items needed, in the order they are needed:

Along with this list, you will also need 100 Tailoring, Blacksmithing, or Leatherworking to start the chain.

Part 1: The Dead Twilight Cultist

The first step is to find the Dead Twilight Cultist, found at 17, 26, near the Zoram Strand in Ashenvale. They are a Tauren resting on a stone platform. Drink your Elixir of Coalesced Regret, and speak to their corpse to solve the mystery of his death. You will be taken through several dialogue steps until finally you receive this message:

Oh… I… feel… I’m slipping away now. The
darkness… danger… the beast… Serra’kis.
May be the… key.

This is the final step of the dialogue and allows you to trigger the next part of the quest.

Part 2: Serra’kis

Before you begin this part I recommend you clear Blackfathom Deeps. Once you have a lockout that has cleared all 7 bosses, come back a few hours after finishing the raid and all trash will have despawned, leaving you free to wander without worrying about pulling any leftover trash. You could also complete this part during the raid, and come back later for future parts.

Poor old Serra’kis is indeed the key. You can find the rotting corpse of the giant Thresher being slowly devoured by turtles in Ghamoo-Ra’s room within Blackfathom Deeps. Interacting with the corpse will give you a Handful of Shifting Scales, noting in the flavor text that you might want to find someone who knows something about them. Anyone who has completed the Glowing Shard quest from Wailing Caverns will know there is only one place to seek information, and that place is Ratchet.

Part 3: N’ora Anyheart, Scholar of Exotic Fauna

Visit the inn in Ratchet, in there you will find N’ora Anyheart, a scholar of exotic fauna. After bringing her the scale she will offer to fashion a talisman for you, harnessing the magical energy produced by Serra’kis scales, in exchange for materials, of course. These materials are 40 Strange Dust, 5 Greater Magic Essence, 2 Small Glimmering Shards, and 5 Gold. All of which (except maybe the Gold) is produced by disenchanting items, so if you aren’t an Enchanter yourself, you will have to pay a visit to the Auction House.

Once you hand over the frankly extortionate shopping list, N’ora will give you the Shifting Scale Talisman, allowing you to survive the crushing darkness in the depths of Blackfathom.

Part 4: The Box

I hope you waited long enough for the trash to disappear from your raid lockout, otherwise you might be in trouble here. Equip your Shifting Scale Talisman, and head over to the room just before Twilight Lord Kelris. You can use the teleporter at the start of the dungeon to teleport to Gelihast, saving you some time.

Jog over to the middle platform and dive into the water below. Swim underneath what would be Kelris’s room, continuing until you reach the end and find an Artisan’s Chest. Within the chest, you’ll find The Box. Head out before you drown, you can inspect The Box later!

Part 5: A Powerful Source of Light

Reading the Use: text on The Box clues you into where you need to go. If you for some reason decided to talk to every NPC you found, you may have stumbled upon either Brave Stonetorch in Tarren Mill or Ardelle Dralta in Southshore. Both of these new NPCs will speak of a “brilliant white stone that fell from the sky in the hills”. That stone is where we are headed.

Any long-time Rogue player will likely know where and how to find Ravenholdt Manor, and that is exactly where we want to go. Head to 75, 24 in Hillsbrad Foothills, north of Durnholde Keep. Follow the path up, through the cave, and into Ravenholdt Manor. Cut across the courtyard, through the training circle, and back to the hills. Follow the winding path around the mountains. At times it may not even look like you are going the right way, but keep left and push ahead.

Eventually, you will see it, the light glowing in the distance. Walk up to it and use The Box in the water surrounding it. Destroying the box gives you a Shard of the Void, the key ingredient in any void-touched footwear.

Part 6: The Shadowy Figure

Once you cleanse The Box, a Shadowy Figure will appear behind you. Progress their dialogue up until the fourth page of dialogue, when you are offered two different dialogue options. If you select “I want nothing from you. Leave me be” you will not learn the recipes. Pressing “Fine, show me. If only to stop your prattling” will instead have your character learn the recipe for Extraplanar Spidersilk Boots so long as you are a Tailor.

Combine your Spidersilk Boots with the Shard of the Void for your new Epic boots! If you somehow misplaced your Shard of the Void, you can collect The Box again from Blackfathom Deeps, or visit Rix Xizzix in Booty Bay to reclaim a shard from the lost and found.
