- Expansion: WoW Classic
Season of Discovery changes up the Classic WoW meta with lower level caps, which also limits what items you can craft and use. For the Mining profession, that means you’ll be farming lower level ore, stone, and gems for use by Blacksmithing and Engineering.
Mining Leveling & Trainers
Check out our Classic Mining Guide for trainer locations, a leveling guide, and more. Everything in that guide should apply to Season of Discovery. Just keep in mind that the first 3 phases of Season of Discovery will have lower skill caps, so you won’t be able to level all the way to 300 yet.
Phase 2 Mining Skill
Phase 2 of Season of Discovery brings the skill cap for professions to 225, or Expert level. Artisan skills now have a level 41 requirement, so you won’t be able to train that high until Phase 3.
Expert gathering professions can be learned from any trainer for that skill, so you don’t have to travel to a specific trainer to get Expert Mining. Just visit the nearest city and ask a guard for directions.
There is one way to increase your skill beyond the cap, and that’s with glove enchantments. Enchant Gloves – Advanced Mining will allow you to reach as high as 230 total Mining skill.
Phase 2 Mining Equipment
There isn’t any special equipment that gives Mining skill, but there are two glove enchantments. You’ll need to find someone with the appropriate  Enchanting formula:
- Enchant Gloves – Mining (+2)
- Formula: Enchant Gloves – Mining drops from Dark Iron Dwarves in Wetlands
- Enchant Gloves – Advanced Mining (+5)
- Formula: Enchant Gloves – Advanced Mining drops from Venture Co. Strip Miners in Stranglethorn Vale
Phase 2 Ore to Farm
So far, no new ore or gems have been added in Season of Discovery. Mining works the same as it did in vanilla World of Warcraft, just with lower level caps.
Pretty much any ore above Copper could be worth farming. Blacksmiths and Engineers will be looking for all of it.
Here is everything can mine in Phase 2 of Season of Discovery. Click on a node in the “Where to Pick“ column to see maps with spawn locations by zone.

And here’s a smelting table for convenience. Smelting Truesilver requires Enchant Gloves – Advanced Mining to put you at 230 skill level. Note that Dark Iron Bar cannot be smelted yet since it must be done inside the Blackrock Depths dungeon, which requires level 42 to enter.
