WoW Classic Level 29 Twink Warrior Guide

Wow Classic Level 29 Twink Warrior Guide

Often thought to be the best tanks in all of World of Warcraft (WoW), Warriors are the absolute masters of martial prowess.  In PvP Warriors can both dole out and absorb huge amounts of damage and paired with a good Healer, a Warrior can dominate in the Arena.  As part of a battle group, Warriors excel at dropping powerful, damaging foes, like Mages, quickly and then moving on to the next. If you value raw aggressive damage and being the strongest opponent on the field, the Warrior is the class for you.

Races

The choice of race for just about any character can be a difficult one and for Warriors, the choice is the most difficult, since every race on Azeroth have Warriors in their ranks.  If you’re interested in a more general understanding of all of these races, go ahead and click here to see a more detailed and slightly lore based description of the races in WoW.  Ahead are all listed the races available to Warriors and the Racial Traits pertinent to playing that class as a Twink.

Alliance

  • Dwarf:  Dwarves can counter the Bleed, Poison and Disease effects that some classes wield with Stoneform.  The ability also offers a short term Armor bonus which is great.  Frost Resistance is good for countering frost Mages and the damage from Hunter’s traps.  Most players would not even mention Find Treasure, but a lot of your BiS gear is going to cost you, so the more gold that you can line your pockets with, the better off you’ll be.  Not to mention that you might just find a piece of your gear in a chest.
  • Gnome:  Escape Artist is always useful to anyone doing any kind of PvP, but especially to Warriors, who are often the target of movement impairing effects.  Engineering Specialization is especially important to any Twink and the extra points mean getting to certain schematics faster and having access to some equipment that no other race will.  Arcane Resistance is good, because it counters many of the abilities of the Mage and some of the damage that Hunters can do.  Expansive Mind is one that many players think is unimportant for a Warrior and they are all wrong.  In Classic WoW Intellect effects the speed at which you learn weapon skills, making Gnomes more adaptable to multiple weapon types than any other race in the game.
  • Human:  Mace Specialization and Sword Specialization will be pretty helpful, especially early on, as many of your best weapons will likely be one or two handed maces and swords.  Perception is a good edge against Rogues in Battlegrounds and sometimes in the arena.  The Human Spirit will help with health and mana regeneration, which is important for a Paladin.  Like the Dwarf’s Find Treasure, Diplomacy might not seem worth mentioning, but anything that will help you pinch pennies is a good thing and some of the most important BiS items can only be purchased from reputation based vendors.
  • Night Elf:  Any kind of damage resistance is good.  Nature Resistance which counters the majority of the attacks from Druids and Shamans is also good for countering the poisons and stings of Hunters and Rogues, which are also Nature based.  Increasing your chance to dodge is always a good thing, so Quickness is a nice addition.  Shadowmeld, which lets you drop from combat and become invisible, is an absolute lifesaver in a pinch and often overlooked by most players.  While under the effects of Shadowmeld you cannot attack or move.  You can however, eat any food on your person, which allows you to quickly regain health, almost in the middle of a fight. Finally, since no one likes a corpse run, Wisp Spirit should be mentioned too.

Horde

  • Orc:  Axe Specialization offers an edge when using axes and 2 – handed axes. This is especially of note to Arms Warriors, who often find themselves using the latter.  Blood Fury is absolutely fantastic, as its extra damage can allow you to quickly finish off a frustratingly resilient opponent swiftly.  Hardiness is probably the best racial trait that Orcs offer to a Twink Warrior, as its effects stack with Iron Will.
  • Tauren:  The extra health offered by Endurance is probably the best benefit offered by Tauren, as it scales with level.  As with Night Elves, Resistance is often overlooked, but it can counter the main damage types of two classes, as well as the poisons and stings of Rogues and Hunters respectively.  Stomp offers a 2 second AoE (Area of Effect) stun.  This, coupled with Thunder Clap can keep the majority of your enemies busy long enough for you to gain a massive advantage.
  • Troll:  While it does have a bit of a cooldown, Berserking is still a great ability, especially with Trolls already high agility.  Regeneration is the best racial trait offered by Trolls for Twink Warriors, as it allows you to regain health even while in combat and is always active.  If you combine this with a potion or other buff that does the same, you will have a distinct survival advantage over other Class/Race combos.
  • Undead:  Cannibalize is a great weak, bonus heal for between fights that will allow you to conserve your food and bandages for when they are really necessary.  Shadow Resistance is great for shrugging off the main damage types of Priests and Warlocks and should not be overlooked, while Will of the Forsaken is a mainstay of PvP that allows you to escape the CC (Crowd Control) effects of those classes as well.

Which of these races you are likely to choose will be based on both your play style and your aesthetic.  All of them have great traits that are of use to a Warrior of any level, or inclination. It might be wiser to base your choice off of looks actually, because you’ll have to look at them for almost 30 levels and then some.

Professions

There are a lot of professions to choose from, which can make deciding which ones to go with hard.  Fortunately, one of the coolest professions is also an absolute necessity for a Twink of any class. Engineering.  There are a plethora of gadgets, devices and bombs that are extremely useful within Battlegrounds and you won’t want to miss out on them.

While Engineering is a necessity, you’re other Profession is also important.  Which ones you’ll be interested in will largely depend on your class.

What follows is a description of each of the Professions that should be of interest to a level 29 Twink Warrior and why.

Engineering

For any Twink, at almost any level, Engineering is a must-have.   You’ve got explosives that offer minor CC effects, like the Mithril Frag Bomb (the stun effect of which can work against even level 60 characters).  There’s some utility to be had at this level too, with items like the Parachute Cloak , which is good if you’ve had a fall.  There’s even some support items, like the Minor Recombobulator and the Goblin Jumper Cables, to make your Warrior a bit more helpful in a group.  The latter of which can be of great benefit, if the Warrior survives a desperate situation and can use the cables to rez a healer.

Mining

Even if you are planning on funding your Twink with an Alt, or the like, you might just want to go ahead and take Mining.  Warriors need a lot of money for upkeep and gear and mitigating any costs you have is invaluable.  Many of the raw materials for Engineering can be acquired from Mining, not to mention that whatever you don’t use can be sold on the AH(auction house) for a tidy profit.

Enchanting

Enchanting is probably the best choice for players who are not supporting their Twink with another character.  It has few expensive reagents that must be truly gathered, most being products of disenchanting items you are already likely to pick up.  It also offers lucrative selling opportunities with the many materials you will acquire from breaking down all of the Green and Blue items you do not need.  It can also offset the cost of getting your own enchantments some, as higher level enchanters are sometimes on the lookout for lower level materials.

Other Professions

This is actually easy, because there are a bunch of Professions that are pointless for a Warrior and even more so a Twink.  Tailoring and Leatherworking should both be completely avoided, as they are both absolutely useless to a Warrior of any kind.  Likewise, Herbalism and Skinning are to be eschewed, as if you are going to take on a gathering profession, it might as well be Mining, since you will already have Engineering anyway.  This leaves only Blacksmithing and Alchemy viable outside choices and both are decent choices, though Alchemy may have more benefit at this level.

Secondary Skills

Cooking

Cooking has but one benefit to any Twink at any level bracket.  The Well Fed Buff.  The food that offers the highest possible Well Fed bonus at this level is Soothing Turtle Bisque, which gives a +8 bonus.  You can get the recipe to cook this food from Kelsey Yance in Booty Bay.  Some players may wish to go for the Giant Clam Scorcho, as it is acquired through a faction based cooking quest.  This is still viable, but is more complicated to acquire than the Turtle Bisque.  The choice is, of course, yours.

First Aid

The only thing to worry about here is to get your First Aid maxed as high as it will go, so that you can use the Heavy Runecloth Bandage, which can heal you almost completely full with just one bandage.  To do this, you will need the three books Expert First Aid – Under WrapsManual: Heavy Silk Bandage and Manual: Mageweave Bandage.  The only trouble is that, because you still can’t get your Secondary Skills up to 300 yet, you’ll have to find someone to craft the bandages for you.  Alternatively, you could simply purchase them off of the AH.

Fishing

This skill is not as important at this level bracket, but it’s still a great way to increase your income, especially while you’re bored and waiting around near some water.  Take any opportunity you can to fish, because each time you fish is a chance to catch a rare fish that can earn you some good money. It’s also not a bad way to get Cooking and Alchemy reagents to increase those skills.

Spells and Abilities

The Warriors abilities might be tricky for some players, as the stance mechanic is pretty unique to the class.  Some Druid players may find it easier, as the Rage mechanic is almost the same.  Many of the abilities available to the Warrior are usable in any stance, but some can only be used when in a specific stance.  For example Disarm can only be used when in Defensive Stance, while Mocking Blow is only usable in Battle Stance and Heroic Strike can be used in any stance. So you either have to pick a stance and stick to it, or Stance Dance like no one’s watching.

It can also be confusing, because each of the stances, and the abilities that are specific to them, also correlate to the different Warrior

There are only two stances available to a Warrior at level 29, Battle and Defensive.  What follows is a breakdown of those stances and the abilities that are pertinent to your twink.

Battle Stance

Likely the stance that you will spend the most time in and the one that has the most PvP centric abilities, Battle Stance is best for solo players.  If you want to dominate the 1v1 arena scene, Battle Stance is your path to victory.  Here are the abilities that can be use only in Battle Stance.

  • Charge:  Easily the most useful ability exclusive to Battle Stance and definitely the most fun.  You charge in, stun an opponent while also gaining rage. What’s not to love?
  • Overpower:  Oh your opponent dodged your attack?  Guess what? No they didn’t. This is a fantastic little counter attack that cannot be countered!
  • Thunder Clap:  At this level, the best and only AoE at a Warrior’s disposal.  Does a decent amount of damage and slows your enemies’ attacks.  Use this right after a Charge, when you’re running into a group of enemies.
  • Hamstring:  This is a fantastic ability to use against escaping foes and Rogues in particular.  It doesn’t do much damage, but slows an opponent’s movement speed significantly. Use when you’ve almost downed a target to keep them from running away.
  • Mocking Blow:  You might be wondering why this one is on the list, since threat is meaningless in PvP and you’re somewhat right, players are immune to threat effects…their pets on the other hand are not.  You might not find this one all that useful all the time, but when it’s useful, it’s very useful.
  • Retaliation:  This ability is best used when either surrounded by multiple foes, or facing off against a small group, or single enemy that is going to take some time to bring down and is definitely going to attack you.  The animation on this one is pretty obvious, so be prepared for an enemy to simply disengage in some way.

Defensive Stance

Not at all a bad choice for PvP, especially when playing with a group, or just a friend who is a healer and the 10% reduction in damage never hurts.

  • Shield Block:  If you are using a shield, this is a great ability, though short lived.  If you time it right and maybe buff it up with talents, you’re talking about 5 seconds where you just don’t get hit.
  • Revenge:  Basically the Defensive version of Overpower.  Has more opportunity of use and does more damage, but can be blocked.  Still, a great ability and a bonus attack when you are in Defensive Stance.
  • Disarm:  A great ability to use against other Warriors and against Rogues, who lose the use of most of their own abilities without a weapon in hand.
  • Last Stand:  This is one of those last resort abilities that can either save the day, or guarantee defeat.  See when it says that the hit points are gone, it means it. If you don’t have at least 31% of your total HP after 20 seconds, you simply die.  That being said, if you manage to drop your last foe before you fall yourself – then all that matters is that one stood against many. Besides, your healer can always bring you back.
  • Shield Wall:  This is a great ability for when you find yourself overwhelmed.  It helps your Healer too, as they will not need to worry about your HP, at least for a little while.  It will also let you breathe for a few seconds and think about your next move.

Universal Abilities

This list represents abilities that can be used in multiple stances.

  • Bloodrage:  Perhaps one of the most important Warrior abilities, especially at this level, as it is one of only two abilities that actually generates rage in and of itself.  Bloodrage is also the quickest way to generate rage quickly when changing stances.
  • Cleave:  This is one of your only other AoEs at this level.  A solid choice of attack if you’re facing off against more than one foe.
  • Intimidating Shout:  One of your only real CC abilities not geared for PvE.  This is an extremely important move for Warrior Twinks.
  • Demoralizing Shout:  This is just a fantastic ability that often gets underused.  It works the best when engaging larger groups of enemies, but works just fine against small groups, or a single foe.  Making your enemies weaker is a good thing, no matter the number of them.
  • Execute:  One of the Warriors most damaging abilities at any level.  Execute is one of the best abilities for finishing off weak and annoying foes like Mages and Healers.
  • Heroic Strike:  You’re absolute “bread and butter” go-to ability and the one you will likely be using the most of all.  A fair cost in Rage, with a significant damage increase. When not using one of your other attacks, be using this if you can.
  • Piercing Howl:  This is a minor CC that slows enemies very well.  Might be more situational than other abilities, but still has its uses.
  • Rend:  A nice little DoT (Damage over Time) that you can tag tougher opponent with to weaken them, while you switch to a weaker target that you can finish quickly.  This is the only bleed ability that a Warrior has at level 29, outside of talents that add bleed effects.  It can’t be used in Fury Stance, but that doesn’t matter at this level.

Remember to watch your rage management and always try to be the one that starts the fight…preferably with Charge.

Talents

In this bracket, a Warrior’s role is more focused and as such, the choice of talents is much simpler.  There are really only two choices when it comes to a PvP Warrior at this level: Damage or Defense.

Damage:  If you want to make sure that you are doing the most damage possible, then very simply max out the following talents.  Cruelty, Deflection, Improved Rend, Improved Charge, Deep Wounds and Improved Overpower.  This will ensure the maximum amount of bonus damage, as well as the maximum overall critical chance.

Defense:  There are two builds for defense.  One is for pure staying power and survivability, the other is for Flag Carrying in Capture the Flag.  For survivability, max out the following, Deflection, either Shield Specialization or Anticipation depending on what weapon you are using the most, Toughness,  and finally Iron Will to counter those pesky CCs that your foes will be throwing around.

For the FC build, go with maxing out Cruelty, Unbridled Wrath, Piercing Howl, Shield Specialization and put 4 points into Iron Will to again counter CC effects.

You might want to see exactly what the Warrior’s talent trees have to offer first hand.  If so, don’t waste money respecing, try out the Warrior Talent Calculator and create your own build!

BiS Gear

Warriors are the most gear centric class in the game and yes, that does include Paladins.  For Warriors, gear is the most important aspect to playing. What follows is a list of all of the BiS gear for a level 29 Warrior Twink and how to get it.  If you are being supported by a Main, or Alt then you should be fine, but know that most of your gear will be either expensive, or difficult to acquire. Good luck.

Enchantments

The enchantments for your gear are almost as important as the gear itself.  Make sure to get all of the best enchantments for each gear slot item that can be enchanted.  If your Main is not an enchanter, then acquiring these enchantments will be expensive, so keep that in mind.  Here are all of the best enchantments for a level 29 Twink Warrior

Buffs

There are a number of great consumables that are of great use to a Warrior Twink of level 29 and you’ll want to acquire them all if you want to have that extra edge in combat.  Don’t underestimate the value of a good potion, or scroll – both to you and to your potential companions.

Battle Elixirs

  • Elixir of Ogre’s Strength:  A decent little strength buff, which will give you a slight edge.  Not a ton of strength, but the random jarring factor of the size increase is a psychological edge too.

Guardian Elixirs

  • Elixir of Fortitude:  Everyone likes more health.  You should too.
  • Mighty Troll’s Blood Potion:  This one is good in a group to help mitigate yourself healing and allow you to use the excess Mana to aid your friends.
  • Elixir of Greater Defense:  This one might be better suited for some of your damage taking allies, but chances are, they’ve brought their own.  If so, use this for yourself. No adventurer of Azeroth was ever the worse for having more armor.

Potions

  • Greater Healing Potion:  Healing potions are the bread and butter of any adventurer worth their salt.  You know what this is and you know when to use it.
  • Minor Magic Resistance Potion:  Another lower level item that can still prove useful.  Magical resistance across the board, no matter how little, is nothing to turn your nose up at.
  • Jungle Remedy:  These may be less useful to you, but your allies will find them helpful when you are not around.  You’ll have to farm them in STV, or purchase them off of the AH if you want them though.
  • Great Rage Potion:  This is a life saver, especially when switching stances and unlike Bloodrage, it doesn’t hurt you.
  • Swiftness Potion:  A Warrior should never run from battle…that being said, should you find yourself in need of a…tactical retreat, this potion will be of help.

Scrolls

  • Scroll of Protection II:  Don’t use with the Elixir of Defense, but if you don’t have one of those, it’s pretty great.
  • Scroll of Stamina:  More health and durability is always a good thing.  This might be your best choice of scrolls, in fact.
  • Scroll of Strength:  This is a great one if you plan on being in Bear Form doing melee damage for a long period of time.

Team Buffs

Power Word: Fortitude and Mark of the Wild are the party buffs you’re going to be the most interested in.  Also, Blessing of Kings if you happen to be Alliance.

Other Consumables

So, you are now ready to face off against the worst that the Arena and Battlegrounds have to offer, weapon in hand and armor on your back.  Go forth into the PvP zones to hear the call of battle and meet it! CRUSH your enemies, see then driven before you and hear the lamentation of their vanity pets!  Also, don’t forget to repair…like a lot. Have fun!

I really appreciate the time you took to post these guides but as I mentioned on the Priest Guide – would you be able to post other gear/item options that would be 2nd/3rd “tier” as some of the items listed have VERY low drop rates? Thanks!
