There’s a new set of items in Phase 7 of Season of Discovery which can be upgraded and offer a scaling bonus for each piece of Sanctified gear you have equipped while you are inside the Naxxramas raid. These items all share the name Seal of the Dawn, and there is a version for tanks, a version for healers, and a version for damage dealers, each with 10 progressively more powerful ranks to earn.

Seal of the Dawn Trinkets

You can obtain your initial Seal of the Dawn from Kug Softjaw inside the Naxxramas instance. You’ll find him in the middle, very close to the entrance. He offers the quest Hope Begins in the Dark, which you can simply turn in to him to get your Seal.

The Seal of the Dawn is an item that you can carry in your inventory which provides your character with a buff when used. This buff allows the collection of scourgestones as if you were wearing an Argent Dawn Commission or similar trinket. It also confers a buff based on the number of Sanctified items you have equipped.

How to Upgrade the Seal of the Dawn

Seal of the Dawn upgrades will be gated, with a maximum rank that can be reached each week. Each rank requires a progressively higher number of Remnants of Valor to purchase. Once you have upgraded one version of the item, you will be able to upgrade the other versions (tank, healer, or DPS) for free.

Bosses in Naxxramas drop Remnants of Valor, which can be looted by everyone in the raid. These are used to upgrade the Seal of the Dawn. Each rank requires more Remnants of Valor than the last. Bosses killed on higher difficulties will drop more Remnants of Valor.

There is also a repeatable quest outside the raid that awards Remnants of Valor. The number awarded will start small, but will increase every few weeks, allowing players who fall behind to catch up.

Remnants of Valor are Bind on Account and can be traded to your alts.

The effectiveness of your Seal of the Dawn will be capped based on how many quarters are empowered in Naxxramas. With zero quarters empowered, the Seal of the Dawn will only grant its buff up to rank 2.

Sanctified Gear

Sanctified is a special tag that appears on a lot of endgame gear in Phase 7:

  • The Seal of the Dawn item itself counts as a Sanctified item.
  • Gear that drops inside Naxxramas, including all Tier 3 set items, are Sanctified.
  • Gear that drops inside the new Karazhan Crypts dungeon is Sanctified.
  • The Undead Slaying pieces that drop from the Scourge Invasion event are each considered Sanctified.
    • Wearing a full 3-piece Undead Slaying set counts for an additional +2 Sanctified.

While most Sanctified gear drops inside the Naxxramas raid, you’ll be able to reach +6 Sanctified just with your Seal of the Dawn and a 3-piece Undead Slaying set.

There is a cap on the number of Sanctified pieces that can contribute to these bonuses. Wearing any more than 8 pieces of Sanctified gear will not grant any additional bonuses from your Seal of the Dawn. (There’s no actual harm in doing so, you just won’t increase the bonus beyond 8.)
