This guide will cover how to get the Burnout rune for Mages in Season of Discovery. We’ll go over all of the locations and requirements in the walkthrough below as well as any useful tips and tricks.

How to Get the Burnout Rune

The method of discovering this rune is shared with the Warlock’s Chaos Bolt Rune. You will likely need help from a Warlock or another Mage to get this rune.

To get the Burnout rune, find the Frozen Trogg at Gol’Bolar Quarry in Dun Morogh, around 69, 58. Attack it with fire spells to loot Spell Notes: Burnout, which you can right-click to learn the rune.

You may need the help of another mage or warlock to damage the trogg quickly enough to destroy it. All spells will say “Absorbed,” but you should see the trogg’s health going down.

To get the Burnout rune, find the Frozen Makura east of Razor Hill in Durotar, around 69, 58. Attack it with fire spells to loot Spell Notes: Burnout, which you can right-click to learn the rune

You may need the help of another mage or warlock to damage the makura quickly enough to destroy it. All spells will say “Absorbed,” but you should see the makura’s health going down.

To get the Burnout rune, find the Frozen Murloc in the island in the middle of Stone Cairn Lake in Elwynn Forest, around 77, 51. Attack it with fire spells to loot Spell Notes: Burnout, which you can right-click to learn the rune.

You may need the help of another mage or warlock to damage the murloc quickly enough to destroy it. All spells will say “Absorbed,” but you should see the murloc’s health going down.

To get the Burnout rune, find the Frozen Murloc north of Brightwater Lake in Tirisfal Glades, around 58, 44. Attack it with fire spells to loot Spell Notes: Burnout, which you can right-click to learn the rune.

You may need the help of another mage or warlock to damage the murloc quickly enough to destroy it. All spells will say “Absorbed,” but you should see the murloc’s health going down.

Found the only firespell that was effective on this guy in durotar was living flame, everything else was absorbed.

Living Flame is the only way I’ve found to do this solo, but usually you need multiple players to cast Fire spells on the ice at the same time to thaw it. All hits should be absorbed until the ice melts.
