Blizzard has made some previously unannounced changes to the game for Season of Discovery. Some content that was expected to be in Phase 1 will not be available until later phases.

Here are all of the changes we’ve found or that have been announced:

  • Professions are capped at level 150, not 225 as expected. Expert skills were changed to require level 26, so they won’t be available until Phase 2. Our Season of Discovery Profession Guides have been updated to reflect this change. Many items that would have been craftable at 225 would not have been usable by level 25 characters anyway. The profession that took the biggest hit is Engineering, which will miss out on several gadgets and higher-level goggles.
  • The Gnomeregan dungeon is inaccessible. This is because it is going to become a raid in Phase 2. Scarlet Monastery is still open, despite being teased at BlizzCon as a possible future raid.
  • The maximum PvP rank for Phase 1 will be rank 3. So no one will be getting rank 14 for quite a while.
  • The Arena Master and Arena Grand Master trinkets from the Gurubashi Arena in Stranglethorn Vale are not currently obtainable. These highly sought after items will not be available until a later phase.
  • Likewise, the Tidal Charm trinket from Arathi Highlands is not available in Phase 1.
  • The Stranglethorn Fishing Tournament won’t begin until Phase 2. That means the powerful rewards from this event won’t be in the game yet. You can still level your Fishing skill to get ready for Phase 2, however.
  • Chests that normally spawn in high level zones will not be there. We’ve updated our Chest Farming Guide to reflect this. You won’t be able to get high-level items and materials by sneaking your way through and looting chests.
  • You also won’t be able to find Rune Engravings from future phases in the game yet, so there’s no point in hunting for them.

As explained here yesterday, the maximum rank that can be achieved in Phase 1 of Season of Discovery is rank 3. Additionally:

  • The Tidal Charm trinket does not drop from Prince Nazjak in Arathi Highlands in Phase 1 of Season of Discovery.
  • The Arena Master and Arena Grand Master trinkets are not available in Phase 1.
  • Runes that will become available in future phases cannot be obtained in the current phase.
  • World chests located in high level zones will not ever spawn during early phases.
  • The Stranglethorn Fishing Tournament will begin with the Phase 2 of Season of Discovery. Intrepid players who survive going to Stranglethorn Vale at level 25 need not bring a fishing pole.
