Sinyou’s Comprehensive Classic WoW Gold Guide

Welcome to my gold guide. I originally wrote this on the Feenix forums but that went the way of the dodo bird so I rewrote it here as best as I could remember. The $$$$$ rating are based off my personal opinion and results may vary.

I can be reached on discord sinyou#9983.

Professions

Alchemy

$$$$$

Alchemy is the most lucrative profession in the game because of the constant demand for raid/pvp consumables.

Herbalism

$$$$

Herbalism is very lucrative, even more so when paired with alchemy.

Herbs

The above herbs are all used in something, mostly for the potions listed in the alchemy section. Get the add-on Gatherer and don’t be afraid to look up node locations on classic.wowhead.com.

Skinning

$$$

You’ll need to get Finkle’s Skinner off The Beast In UBRS for the +10 skinning. The most profitable leather is Black Dragonscales, Blue Dragonscales, Red Dragonscales, Green Dragonscales, Devilsaur Leather (usually camped), Core Leather, and Pristine Hide of the Beast which is very rare off The Beast in UBRS — but your should basically skin any animal you come across.

Tailoring

$$$

Tailoring isn’t very profitable at all without rare recipes, but cloth dps need it for the Bloodvine +2 crit set bonus so that’s that.

Disenchanting

You can disenchant anything at level 5 upon learning enchanting, so your bank alt should be an enchanter. Furthermore, enchanting mats cost no deposit to list on the AH, meaning you should disenchant anything that has got stats on it and has no hope of selling on the AH.

Engineering

$

Engineering is a basically a gold sink, because you have to have engineering to use almost everything except the non-combat pets, but it gives you a lot of versatility. Having the stuns from explosives is great for PvP and Goblin Sapper Charges, Arcanite Dragonling, Gnomish Battle Chickens and Repair Bots are great for raids.

Fishing

$$$

Fishing is very lucrative especially when paired with Alchemy and Cooking. Fishing maxes out at 300 but 425 is needed for no fish to get away in max level areas. It is a secondary profession so you should have it no matter what.

Cooking is a secondary profession, and as such you should have it anyways, so you might as well make some gold off of it.

First Aid is a secondary profession that you will never profit from, but you should have it anyways.

Auction House Tycoon

$$$$$

Bid on everything, bid on everything some more. Did I mention to bid? You need to bid/buy low, which means you need to bid. Get the auction house add-on of your choice (Auctionator, Auctioneer, Aux) and bid bid bid/buy low and sell high.

Flipping

Keep an eye out for anything underpriced, or that has a low bid on it. Anything used in a profession, to power level a profession, used in a quest, bags, consumables or is basically anything mentioned in this guide. You want something to be at least 30-50% below market value. Don’t blindly trust your auctioneer, it records what things are listed for, not what they actually sold for. Use it as an approximation, not a fact. Those players that post an item for 1000g, 500g, 250g,100g, 50g, 25g etc when it sells for 1g is why auctioneers percentages aren’t accurate. Use your head. Think to yourself, is a guy power leveling blacksmithing really going to bother paying 50g for a shadowgem? No he’s not. BID, BID, BID and then BID some more.

Level 19 Twink Gear

Flipping Blues/Epics

These are all either a Pre raid BiS or are highly sought after by a specific class or another. Bid, Bid, Bid. You need to win these for at least 20% below market value. Then it’s best to spam sell them in trade to avoid auction house fees.

Winters Veil

From December 15th to January 16th a Christmas event called Winter Veil happens in-game. This event offers the opportunity to make some profit.

  • Stock up on Small Eggs a few months before the event begins. Their price will increase due to the seasonal quest,The Feast of Winter Veil, which requires five Gingerbread Cookies. The event also adds Egg Nog to the game. Both of these recipes require Small Eggs and are only obtainable during the Winter Veil event.
  • Stock up on Deeprock Salt a few months before the event. Their price will also increase because of the seasonal quest, The Hero of the Day, which rewards 5 Preserved Holly.
  • Preserved Holly itself can be sold on the auction house. If you stock up during the Winter Veil event while prices are low you can expect to make a profit when they are out of season in the spring and summer.
  • Winter Veil wouldn’t be Winter Veil without Snow Balls, which can be found in snow piles in the Alterac Mountains by the elite Ogres, in the Arathi Highlands by the Yetis or bought off the seasonal vendors in the capital cities. This item used to knockdown their targets but were nerfed for whatever reason. They’re like Heavy Leather Balls except you hit your target with a snowball instead. They go out of season at the end of the event. If you stock up on these during the event to sell later on in the off seasons you can expect to make a profit.
  • The Quest, You’re a Mean One… rewards one of the following profession recipes that are only obtainable during the event. The recipe you get is random and may not be for your actual professions.
  • Schemtic: Snowmaster 9000 is a engineering item that makes 1 snowball every 24 hours. It is better to stock up on snowballs during the event than to think that 1 snowball a day is going to make you much, but people collect recipes so stocking up on a few of the recipes during the event to sell during the offseason should net you a profit.
  • Plans: Edge of Winter is a blacksmithing 1h axe that has a chance to do frost damage on hit. Its only real use might be as a weapon on Viscidus in aq40, but again, people collect recipes so stocking up on a few recipes during the event to sell in the offseasons should be profitable.
  • Formula: Enchant Weapon Winter’s Might is a enchant that might be useful in phase one if you don’t have access to Spell Power yet. Again, those pesky recipe collectors so stock up and sell some off recipes during the off seasons.
  • Recipe: Elixir of Frost Power is a raid consumable that frost mages use to increase their frost damage during Mc and Bwl raids. If you are an alchemist, make sure you get this during the event. Since this recipe has an actual valid use it’s not a bad idea to buy up a lot of recipes during the event. Alchemists that want it later on will have to pay a premium for this recipe in the off seasons.
  • Pattern: Gloves of the Greatfather are some leatherworker gloves that could be sold to druids and shamans levelers, but beyond that, stock up on a few to sell to recipe collectors during the off seasons.
  • Pattern: Green Holiday Shirt is a green shirt that matches well with the Gloves of the Greatfather and a Santa hat. It’s cosmetic only. Stock up on a few recipes to resell to collectors during the off seasons.

Disenchanting

Your bank alt should already be an enchanter so he/she can disenchant for you. Get the Enchantrix addon — it tells you an item’s average disenchant value based off of your auction house scans. You should scan the auction house at least twice a day to keep the info as accurate as possible, then bid, bid, bid/buy any armor or weapons that are listed for below their average disenchant value. After you disenchant them, remember that enchanting mats have no deposit cost. You can repost enchanting mats as many times as you want without losing any gold.

Flipping Leveling Armor/Weapons

Keep it cheap, shoot to buy items for at least 50% of what the item sells for. Bid, bid, bid. You’ll get most of your inventory from winning bids. Expect not to make a lot per item (5s-50s). Levelers aren’t going to blow a lot on something they’ll throw away in 10 levels. Make sure the stats make sense. Don’t bid/buy armor or weapons with shitty stats. Leveling warriors, shamans, and paladins want strength and/or stamina (of the Bear). Hunters, rogues, and druids wants agility and/or stamina (of the Monkey). Casters want intellect and/or stamina (of the Eagle). Don’t buy mail past level 35 with warrior stats because they want plate at level 40.

The Sweet Spot and Flipping Trade Goods

Everyone thinks they’ll make tons of gold flipping epics for a bazillion gold when in fact, playing auction house tycoon is more about flipping thousands of items for tiny profit. The sweet spot is the price point that an item always still sells for but not being the lowest price of that particular item. There might be Linen Cloth up for as little as 80c each but it’ll still sell for 1.1 silver each, all day, everyday. That’s the sweet spot. You could buy all the Linen Cloth up to 1.03s each, relist it for 1.1s each and in the absolute worst case still be making 1 copper profit per linen. Of course… You’re not selling 1 or 20, you’re selling several hundred everyday. Auctioneer gives you a rough guess, but it’s up to you to find that sweet spot for any particular item by trial and error.

This works well with trade goods, ammo, or anything that goes in and out of the AH in bulk everyday.

You do this over and over and over and over with several items until it adds up to an epic mount.

Controlling the Market

Let’s say a Large Glimmering Shard is selling for 90 silver and there are 10 shards up at the Auction House. To control this market, what you would do is completely buy out all of the large glimmering shards. Then, you would go back and sell them for any price you decide as you are the only supply for Large Glimmering Shards. Let’s be reasonable and only sell them for 1 gold 80 silver (double). Now, you must have at least 3-5 items up at any given time for the price you have set. If they are not yours but are at 1 gold 80 silver ish, no problem. If someone puts them up for less or the original price, immediately buy them out. People will start to accept that the price of a Large Glimmering Shard is now 1.8g. Also, the people selling the shards will think that they have been selling at 1.8g, so they will put them up for that amount as well. Now, all you have to do is sell off all of your Large Glimmering Shards at 1.8g. You just made twice what you invested.

  • STEP 1: Pick a market with a limited supply of the same item — no more than 10-20 is best.

SellerAmountBuyout / Bid EachSeller 11 Glimmering Shard88s / 80sSeller 23 Glimmering Shard89s / 80sSeller 36 Glimmering Shard90s / 80s

  • STEP 2: Buy them all out and repost 3-5 for whatever you decide. Most other sellers will think the new price (1.8g) is what they go for and post for near the same.

SellerAmountBuyout / Bid EachSeller 43 Glimmering Shard80s / 80sSeller 51 Glimmering Shard1.70g / 80sSeller 62 Glimmering Shard1.79g / 80sYou1 Glimmering Shard1.80g / 1.80gYou1 Glimmering Shard1.80g / 1.80gYou1 Glimmering Shard1.80g / 1.80g

  • STEP 3: Buyout the 3 Glimmering Shards for 80s (regular price) each, the one for 1.7g (5% undercut) and bid up the 2 Large Glimmering Shards with a 80s bid (5% undercut) to force your price point to be competitive with it/or win it.

SellerAmountBuyout / Bid EachYou2 Glimmering Shard1.78g / 1.78gSeller 71 Glimmering Shard1.78g / 1.78gSeller 62 Glimmering Shard1.79g / 80s $You1 Glimmering Shard1.80g / 1.80gYou1 Glimmering Shard1.80g / 1.80gYou1 Glimmering Shard1.80g / 1.80g $ = You’re the highest bidder

  • STEP 4: Keep (3-5) of your Large Glimmering Shards up around 1.8g each ish buyout and bid at all times and let the natural demand sell them.
  • STEP 5: Repeat steps 3 and 4 or even start over at step 1 after a few days and increase the price again if step 1 still applies.
  • STEP 6: Other people will see the rise in price in that market and decide to start selling the item as well. If too many people do this, which ALWAYS happens, Once step one no longer applies (20+ items), abandon the market. Sell what you have left for more than you bought it for and move onto another market.

Vendor Recipes for Resale

Profit priority is towards the bottom for each zone. http://www.blizzardguides.com/vendor_profession_recipes_guide.html

Vendor Vanity Pets For Resale

Remember if you put these on the neutral auction house, the deposit is 75% vendor price 12hr, 150% vendor price 24hr, and 300% vendor price 48hr. That’s 5x more than your faction auction house. Mark up accordingly.

Alliance

Horde

Neutral

Alts

Passive gold

Tailoring, Alchemy, and Leatherworking all have cooldown based abilities. Alchemists can use transmutes like Essence of Undeath to Essence of Water (24hr cd) or Arcanite Bar (48hr cd). Tailors can make Mooncloth (96hr cd). Leatherworkers can make Refined Deeprock Salt (72hr cd). The minimum level a character needs to gain access to these abilities is level 35.

You could have 7 Alts, all level 35 with alchemy and either tailoring or leatherworking. After the initial gold investment to power level all the professions, you would have steady passive income from their cooldown abilities. It takes some time to recoup your investment, but after the leveling is done, it’s basically passive income.

Camping

The most lucrative version of camping with your alt(s) is you park them on Black Lotus spawns. Log on, check the Black Lotus spawn points in the zone, and profit. Remember Black Lotus respawn about an hour after being picked and spawn one at a time in each of the 4 zones they can spawn in.

Next is parking your alts at rare recipe vendors to quickly check their stock. Vi’el in Winterspring comes to mind.

Don’t Overlap

Don’t overlap professions unless you’re going for passive income or it’s needed for raiding (for example, Tailoring: Bloodvine Set).

Cartels

Devilsaur Cartel

A group of players (both Horde and Alliance conspiring together) that control both the Devilsaur spawns and control the Devilsaur Leather market on the auction house. This is insanely lucrative. You’ll hate these people.

Black Lotus Cartel

A group of players that camp all the Black Lotus spawns everywhere, control the Black Lotus market and by extension the flask market on the auction house. This is insanely lucrative. You’ll hate these people.

Making Your Own Cartel

Basically find yourself some business partners and invest/farm together to take over markets. The larger the gold available, the bigger the market you can control. With a large enough cartel you can control any market, quadruple the prices, make a fortune and get out. Rinse, repeat, and savor those tears.

https://youtu.be/pnuFvO1iHAg

Fresh Servers

Fresh Server offer a unique opportunity. All the level 19 Twink Blues, Pre Raid BiS Epics, and Blues listed in the guide above will never be cheaper than they are in the infancy of a server. Why? Due to the influx of players leveling through content and the lack of a gold in existence, you can expect more supply and the lowest prices for first few weeks of a server’s existence. Any smart investments made will pay off big in 3-6 months’ time.

Addons

Auctioneer, Auctionator, Aux – Allows you to scan the auction house and adds a lot of features

Postal – makes mailing lots of stuff easier to do Enchantrix – Works with your scans to estimate an items disenchant value and modifies item tooltip to have more info

SellValue – Modifies an items tooltip to show an item’s vendor value (not sure if the name is accurate)

Lockarrian’s guide to being a proper Robinson Crusoe in Un’Goro Crater

Do you already have the “Timers” AddOn?

  • No => Install Lockarrian’s explicit cartel version
  • Yes => Delete your old piece of shit and install Lockarrian’s explicit cartel version
  • Install Bigwigs too

Why Timers? They are automatic. They trigger off the text in the combat log. Like “Devilsaur dies.” So no need to remember to set the timer in bigwigs.
OMGWTFBBQQ can’t track Mid,East,South,Mid with this poolshit
(if images too tiny check da gallery -> http://imgur.com/a/tmAP7)
No1 gives a fok m8. Except Lockarrian. Lockarrian cares. That’s why he edited the lua code for you and made this no scope -Cartel only- Timers config. Now it DOES display the location of the devilsaur.
HAXBANS?
This works from your player position. Take a look at dis map (below)
If the Devilsaur dies in one of the red boxes AND your character is near, the timer will be set to north, east, mid, south accordingly. If it dies outside the box AND your character is near, it will be set with the coordinates of your character.
Why BigWigs then?
If you are away from a devilsaur and communicating via TS, you can manually set timers since the Timers AddOn only procs if your character is near when the Devilsaur dies.
Config timers correctly
Follow the red circles in the imagesIf the timers don’t delete themselves after expiration (as we configed them in the image), blame obama. You are proper cartel now.

Extras

I am going to add a dirty guild shout out. Yep, right here! You ready? Here it goes!

[HORDE][USWEST][PVP]

Blackrock Candy Co. is a mostly casual, semi hard-core raiding guild focused on clearing raid content as efficiently as possible while maintaining a fun raiding atmosphere. We aspire to build an extraordinary, camaraderie based community that mutually respects our members not just as gamers, but as people. We want the player, not the class. However, if you want world firsts or to be the top everything, everywhere, at all times, this is probably not the guild for you. That having been said, we expect to progress through content quickly. I’d be happy to invite you to our guild discord, just contact me at Sinyou#9983.

Thank you,
Sinyou
