So Sparks of Shadowflame are the new crafting reagent for 10.1 to make epic-level crafted gear similar to the Spark of Ingenuity for season 1. There’s going to be new ways of attaining these important components, though, that should guarantee you one every 2 weeks of playing.
You can obtain half spark per week with a one-time half spark given to you as a tutorial quest at the start of 10.1. This should allow you a full spark in the first week of 10.1, so get to farming so you can make a top tier piece of gear as quickly as possible for next week’s opening of the Aberrus raid! If you fall behind there’s still ways to gain sparks by doing relevant 10.1 content each week that will have a chance to drop half-sparks.

Clarifying a couple of points here.
Sparks are every 2 weeks starting tomorrow (half a spark per week), and there is a tutorial quest that grants an additional half spark. This means players can get their first full spark the same week as the release of the patch, and the second spark will be creatable on week 3 (the week after season 2 starts), etc.
For any characters that fall behind on Spark creation, extra Sparks have a higher chance to drop from sources like:
- M+ end-of-dungeon chests
- PvP Wins
- The new World Boss
- Your first time defeating the dragon boss of the Fyrakk Assault
- The public event Researchers Under Fire
- Niffen Cave Dives
- Aberrus raid bosses
until the character is caught up.
I have completed a lot of this content – full clear N, 5/8 H raid, World boss,quests, dives and no fragment for catchup… am I missing a requirement I completed the Quest line in caves too.
