In Cataclysm, Alchemy is not only a valuable profession but also a powerful toolset, enabling the creation of potent potions, elixirs, and transmutations.

Whether you are new to the realm or an experienced adventurer, this guide is tailored for all, providing step-by-step instructions, highlighting the quickest and most economical ways to reach the pinnacle of Alchemy prowess.

Why Alchemy and Herbalism? Alchemy synergizes impeccably with Herbalism. Opting for both professions simultaneously significantly reduces the gold expenditure as you can personally gather the requisite herbs, thus ensuring a smooth and economical leveling experience. For players looking to delve into Herbalism, refer to our dedicated Herbalism leveling guide.

Alchemists will experience several significant changes and new additions from the previous expansion, Wrath of the Lich King (WotLK). Below is a detailed overview of these changes:

1. New and Unique Recipes:

Mysterious Potion: A new potion with unpredictable effects.
Potion of Deepholm: Another novel potion with unique properties.
Vial of the Sands: This exceptional recipe allows alchemists to craft an item that teaches them how to transform into a Sandstone Drake, a mount that can also carry a passenger.

2. New Alchemist-Only Items:

Lifebound Alchemist Stone: An alchemist-only trinket that not only boosts Stamina and Mastery but also enhances the effects of healing and mana potions. It’s also essential for conducting transmutations.

3. Guild Rewards:

Cauldron of Battle and Big Cauldron of Battle: These are guild rewards functioning similarly to the Warlock’s Create Soulwell. Instead of generating Healthstones, these cauldrons provide flasks to guild members.

4. Transmutation System Overhaul:

Gem Transmutations: The process is revamped. For instance, transmuting an Inferno Ruby now requires three Carnelians (uncommon/green gems) and three Heartblossoms (herbs).
Shadowspirit Diamond: The only raw meta gem in Cataclysm. It’s crafted by transmuting three of each uncommon/green gem, yielding two Diamonds per transmutation.

5. Elimination of Elemental Transmutations:

Transmute: Living Elements: This new transmutation allows alchemists to convert 15 Volatile Life into 15 of any other random Volatile element.

6. Metal Transmutations:

Pyrium Bar: Crafted using four Elementium Bars and four Volatile Earths.
Transmute: Truegold: A new and essential transmutation for crafting Truegold.

You may need to craft more of the specified item if it turns yellow or green in your crafting window and does not grant a skill up with each craft.
When you reach 400, you can make a [Northrend Alchemy Research] and your Alchemy Trinket. This might change the number of potions you need to craft to reach 425.
