Cataclysm brings eight new factions for players to earn reputation with at launch. Each of these factions has different requirements for earning reputation and offers unique rewards. The rewards will be most useful early on as pre-raid gear, but some of the rewards (such as enchantments) can be used throughout Cataclysm’s lifespan.
Beyond completing the initial quests in the relevant zone, most factions have daily quests that can be completed for additional rep. For all factions except Baradin’s Wardens and Hellscream’s Reach, you can also wear the faction’s tabard inside level 85 dungeons to gain reputation from kills.
There are two pairs of reputations that are faction-specific: Baradin’s Wardens and the Wildhammer Clan are exclusive to Alliance, and Hellscream’s Reach and Dragonmaw Clan are their Horde counterparts. The other factions are open to everyone.
There will also be one more faction added later on. Avengers of Hyjal are part of Patch 4.2.0, the Firelands raid patch.
Below you’ll find a summary of each of the factions that will be available in Cataclysm at launch. For more details about each faction, including a list of quests that give reputation and a complete list of rewards, check out our individual faction guides.
Baradin’s Wardens
- Available to: Alliance
- Tabard: Baradin’s Wardens Tabard
- Notable Rewards:
Baradin’s Wardens are the Alliance faction in the Tol Barad PvP zone. Gaining reputation with this faction is a matter of participating in activities in the zone, including the Battle for Tol Barad, the Baradin’s Hold raid, and numerous daily quests. Unlike other factions, you won’t be able to gain reputation with Baradin’s Wardens by wearing their tabard in dungeons.
Dragonmaw Clan
- Available to: Horde
- Tabard: Tabard of the Dragonmaw Clan
- Notable Rewards:
Horde players will encounter the Dragonmaw Clan in Twilight Highlands, where they’ll be recruited as allies. To start earning reputation with this faction, you’ll need to complete quests in the Twilight Highlands. From there you’ll be able to progress all the way to Exalted by completing daily quests or wearing their tabard in dungeons.
Earthen Ring
- Available to: Both factions
- Tabard: Tabard of the Earthen Ring
- Notable Rewards:
The Earthen Ring is made up of shamans who are working to restore the balance of the elements following the Cataclysm. They are spread out all over Azeroth. To start earning reputation with this faction, you’ll need to complete quests in the Vash’jir, Deepholm, or Twilight Highlands zones. From there you’ll be able to wear their tabard in dungeons all the way through Exalted. There are no daily quests available for the Earthen Ring.
Guardians of Hyjal
- Available to: Both factions
- Tabard: Tabard of the Guardians of Hyjal
- Notable Rewards:
The Guardians of Hyjal are introduced the Mount Hyjal zone, where they have been established as protectors of the World Tree, Nordrassil. To start earning reputation with this faction, you’ll need to complete quests in the Mount Hyjal zone. From there you’ll be able to wear their tabard in dungeons all the way through Exalted. Daily quests will not be available for this faction until the Firelands raid is released.
Hellscream’s Reach
- Available to: Horde
- Tabard: Hellscream’s Reach Tabard
- Notable Rewards:
Hellscream’s Reach are the Horde faction in the Tol Barad PvP zone. Gaining reputation with this faction is a matter of participating in activities in the zone, including the Battle for Tol Barad, the Baradin’s Hold raid, and numerous daily quests. Unlike other factions, you won’t be able to gain reputation with Hellscream’s Reach by wearing their tabard in dungeons.
Ramkahen
- Available to: Both factions
- Tabard: Tabard of Ramkahen
- Notable Rewards:
The Ramkahen are first encountered in Uldum, where they reside as one of the tribes of tol’vir. To start earning reputation with this faction, you’ll need to complete quests in Uldum. From there you’ll be able to continue all the way to Exalted by completing daily quests or wearing their tabard in dungeons.
Therazane
- Available to: Both factions
- Tabard: Tabard of Therazane
- Notable Rewards:
Therazane the Stnemother is introduced in the Deepholm zone, where she rules as the elemental lord of earth. To start earning reputation with her faction, you’ll need to complete quests in Deepholm. From there you’ll be able to progress all the way to Exalted by completing daily quests or wearing her tabard in dungeons.
Wildhammer Clan
- Available to: Alliance
- Tabard: Tabard of the Wildhammer Clan
- Notable Rewards:
Alliance players will encounter the Wildhammer Clan in Twilight Highlands, where they’ll be recruited as allies. To start earning reputation with this faction, you’ll need to complete quests in the Twilight Highlands. From there you’ll be able to progress all the way to Exalted by completing daily quests or wearing their tabard in dungeons.
