A healer is the lifeblood the group, and as such you’re going to want to eke out every potential little bit of advantage you can get to make your job easier and the lives of your party members more resilient. This section is going to go over the resources outside of straight-up gear to give you the best odds of not going OOM and leaving your comrades eating dirt!
Gems
You’re going to want to balance between maximum throughput and comfortable mana regeneration. This is largely going to be up to what type of content you’re taking on, what your playstyle demands, and potentially what might tip you over the edge for a Haste threshold you may be aiming for.

Potions
You’ll mostly want to focus on the best fit potion to give you mana as your most efficient way to convert to health for both you and your party is through your mana pool.
- Potion of the Jade Serpent
- Throughput, best combined with another big healing cooldown.
- Master Healing Potion
- I wouldn’t generally recommend this over the mana equivalent of it as they share a CD, but this can be used as an emergency defensive, which can be useful on certain fights.
- Master Mana Potion
- Probably the go-to choice for most situations as it’s an instantaneous chunk of mana with no downside.
- Potion of Focus
- Similar to the Master Mana Potion, but offers a bit more mana at the cost of having to sit there for a full 10 seconds drinking it to get the extra benefit. There are some fights where there are phases you can just chill, and this could work. That said, due to Glyph of Telluric Currents, it’s probably best to just go with the instant option and spam Lightning Bolt to regenerate mana.
Flasks & Elixirs
- Flask of the Warm Sun
- I’d consider this option the standard choice, and the gain in throughput should heavily outweight the choice for extra mp5 in most situations.
- Flask of Falling Leaves
- Gives you a big chunk of Spirit, but I generally wouldn’t take this except for maybe in the very early game when people’s health pools are low and your mana regeneration is a bit rough around the edges. You may want to run this flask in a 25-man raid as your Mana Tide Totem is extremely impactful and scales off your personal Spirit stat.
Food
You’re going to have a few different options for food buffs as it depends on what secondary stats you value. I’d generally recommend against using food buffs to meet Haste thresholds as they’re not 100% consistent as they drop off on death, but if you’re desperate it is an option. Also, if you’re a Pandaren you’ll have the Epicurean racial to increase buffs from foods, so make sure not to skip out!
