Elemental Shaman is mainly going to be worried about hitting their 15% spell Hit cap first and foremost. It’ll be a tricky balancing game of keeping yourself Hit capped, while also not going over and reforging into our DPS-focused secondary stats such as Mastery and then Haste.
Stat Priority
- Hit / Spirit (To the spell Hit cap of 15%)
- Intellect
- Mastery
- Haste
- Critical Strike
Hit is a stat that makes our spells less likely to miss. You’ll want to aim for 15% so that spells cannot miss against level 93 mobs. This is a #1 priority as the DPS loss from missing is enormous, especially with our spells being duplicated often due to our Mastery and certain talent options – meaning you’ll be potentially missing out on more than one cast per missed spell.
Spirit is going to provide the same effect as Hit on gear due to our passive Elemental Precision. Treat it as identical to Hit.
Intellect is your primary stat and is going to contribute to Spell Power and a small bonus to Critical Strike Chance. This scales all of our damage and is going to have the highest weight once we reach our Hit cap. Since this is a primary stat it cannot be reforged, so make sure to prioritize any buffs, enchants, gems, etc that give us more.
Mastery is what really gives Elemental Shamans their unique identity. This contributes to the Mastery: Elemental Overload passive, which gives our spells a chance to be duplicated and fired at the same target at 75% of the damage done. The spells affected by this are Lightning Bolt, Chain Lightning, Lava Burst, and Elemental Blast (Tier 6 talent).
Haste is going to shorten our cast times which equals out to more spells pumped out, more Mastery procs, more Echo of the Elements (Tier 4 talent) procs, and more ticks of the Flame Shock DoT. Pretty straightforward, but very useful.
Critical Strike is not a stat that we hate, but it’s not going to be a priority compared to the rest. This will likely be the stat you wind up reforging off of your gear where you can. As its name implies, it increases your chance to get critical strikes.
Reforging
Reforging is going to be a crucial tool to manage hitting our accuracy cap while also making our gear more potent with aggressive stats when possible. You can only reforge secondary stats, so no Intellect or Stamina. You can also only reforge one stat into a stat that is not present on the piece of gear.

Stats to prioritize reforging into other stats:
- Hit / Spirit (When over 15%)
- Critical Strike
When choosing which stats to reforge the worse stats into, make sure to keep the priority list in the first section in mind. Keep Hit capped at 15% as a number one priority. Then Mastery > Haste >>> Crit.
