Mining Smelting Table: Ore & Bars
Players with the Mining profession gain access to their own mini-crafting skill in the form of Smelting. This ability allows Miners to smelt raw ore into metal bars for use in many recipes for other crafting professions.
Your Smelting skill is the same as your overall Mining skill. You will need a certain skill level to smelt each type of ore, and crafting Smelting recipes of the appropriate level can increase your overall Mining skill.
Smelting can only be done at a Forge. Forges can be found throughout the world, often near a Mining Trainer. When you hover over one, your tooltip will say “Forge.”
Special Smelting Recipes
Most Smelting recipes are learned from Mining Trainers, but there are a few that you will have to hunt down. These each have a very specific purpose.
Dark Iron Bar: Learned by completing the quest The Spectral Chalice inside the Blackrock Depths dungeon, which requires speaking to a dwarf in the dungeon named Gloom’rel in the Summoner’s Tomb and then turning in Star Ruby x2, Gold Bar x20, and Truesilver Bar x10.
Enchanted Elementium Bar: Goblin’s Guide to Elementium drops from Master Elemental Shaper Kixix inside the Blackwing Lair raid. He respawns after a couple of hours so you don’t need to wait a week for the raid to reset to keep farming it. This bar is used exclusively for the quest to obtain Thunderfury, Blessed Blade of the Windseeker.
Hardened Khorium: Study of Advanced Smelting is a zone drop from the Sunwell Plateau raid. This bar is only used to craft some epic items from The Burning Crusade expansion.
