Leatherworking Leveling Guide 1-600

The Leatherworking profession gives players the means to craft leather and mail equipment for themselves or other characters. It pairs well with Skinning, which allows for the gathering of the required leathers and hides. It can also provide items to Disenchant with the Enchanting profession.

If you reached max skill level in Leatherworking during Cataclysm, you can skip most of the level ranges and start at the Zen Master section.

Tips for Leveling Leatherworking

  • It’s always worth checking the Auction House for cheap materials.
  • Use the Filter button in the Leatherworking window and click “Has skill up” to only show recipes that will give you skill points. This will make it a lot easier to scroll through your options.
  • When you go to start crafting, be sure that you have plenty of space in your inventory, as many of the items you will be crafting do not stack. Don’t fill your bags with materials and leave yourself no space for the items you will be making.
  • Don’t forget the Darkmoon Faire quest, Eyes on the Prizes, which can be completed every time the Darkmoon Faire is active (every two weeks in WoW Classic). This quest requires a minimum skill level of 75 and grants 5 skill points upon completion.

Leather & Hide

You’ll be working primarily with leather and hide for Leatherworking. Most of these materials can be gathered directly with Skinning, but some can also be crafted directly with Leatherworking, or require special curing before you can use them. Check our Leather & Hide tables for a full accounting of these conversion and curing recipes.

Required Materials

Patterns

You will only need to purchase two patterns to follow this guide; the rest can be learned from your Leatherworking Trainer.

The first pattern is Pattern: Heavy Leather Ball, which you will only need for 5 skill points at 150 skill level. You could opt to skip this one and craft something less efficient, but the pattern is pretty easy to obtain, being obtainable by the following vendors or from the Auction House:

  • Alliance: Bombus Finespindle in The Great Forge of Ironforge
    • /way Ironforge 40.0, 33.4
  • Horde: Tamar in The Drag of Orgrimmar
    • /way Orgrimmar 60.6, 54.4

The second pattern isn’t needed until the very last stretch from 576-600. At that point you may be looking to craft other items to wear or sell anyway, in which case you can potentially skip this pattern altogether.

You can choose any Contender’s PvP pattern sold by the Leatherworking Supplies vendor in your faction’s Shrine in Vale of Eternal Blossoms. Any pattern you choose will cost 1 Spirit of Harmony to purchase. Here are the vendors:

  • Alliance: Tanner Pang in Shrine of Seven Stars
    • /way Shrine of Seven Stars 75.6, 50.2
  • Horde: Krogo Darkhide in Shrine of Two Moons
    • /way Shine of Two Moons 30.8, 47.6

Zen Master 500-600

Zen Master Leatherworking requires character level 80 and Leatherworking level 500 to learn.

Be sure to use the actual crafting recipe for Mist-Touched Leather – you can craft the leather by right-clicking Sha-Touched Leather in your bags, but that method will not give you any skill points.

Everything we’ve listed in this range gives 2 skill points per craft while they are orange. If Prismatic Scales are cheaper or more available than Mist-Touched Leather, you can craft Stormscale Belt from 530-546, Stormscale Shoulders from 546-560, and/or Stormscale Leggings from 560-576.

At skill level 576, purchase any Contender’s PvP gear pattern with a Spirit of Harmony to get you to 600. Any of these patterns will work out the same since the patterns that require more leather will give more skill points.
