In Mists of Pandaria, characters with the Inscription profession can craft special weapons and off-hands that can be upgraded into epic Account-Bound items. These are strong pieces pre-raid gear that can be shared with your alts. This guide will walk you through every step of crafting and upgrading these items.

Available Weapons and Off-hands

Here is the level 90 equipment you can craft with Inscription. The Rare items on the left are required as materials to craft the Epic items on the right.

Gathering the Materials

Before you get started, it’s a good idea to start gathering the materials so you are ready to go when you want to get crafting. You’ll need many Scroll of Wisdom for the upgraded epic, and that recipe has a one-day cooldown. So you should start making those as soon as possible.

Here is where you can get each of the materials that are used in the crafting recipes below. Check the specific item you wish to craft to see which materials you will need for it.

Plain Wooden Staff or Light Parchment can be purchased from Inscription Supplies vendors, who can be found near any Inscription Trainer.
Ghost Iron Bar is only needed if you are making the Ghost Iron Staff. Each bar can be smelted from 2x Ghost Iron Ore, which can be gathered in Pandaria zones with Mining.
Rain Poppy is only needed if you are making the Rain Poppy Staff. Can be gathered with Herbalism in Jade Forest and Vale of Eternal Blossoms.
Ink of Dreams can be crafted from 2x Shadow Pigment, which is obtained by Milling Pandaria herbs: Desecrated Herb, Fool’s Cap, Green Tea Leaf, Rain Poppy, Silkweed, or Snow Lily.
Starlight Ink can be crafted from 2x Misty Pigment, which is obtained by by Milling the same Pandaria herbs listed above.
Spirit of Harmony is a valuable Bind-on-Pickup material that is obtained by combining 10x Mote of Harmony, which are also Bind-on-Pickup and drop from high level elite mobs in Pandaria zones and raids.
Scroll of Wisdom is another valuable BoP material that can only be crafted once per day. You will need 1x Light Parchment and 3x Ink of Dreams to make each one.

Crafting the Base Items

Before you can craft the upgraded Epic (purple) items, you will need to create the basic Rare (blue) quality items. Below are the materials required to craft each item. Remember that you will need to have a Virtuoso Inking Set in your bags in addition to these materials.
