Alchemy Specializations: Elixir Master, Potion Master, Transmutation Master
Characters with the Alchemy profession are able to choose one of three specializations. Each specialization enhances the Alchemist’s proficiency with that type of recipe, allowing them to produce additional items with each craft. The quests to obtain each specialization have changed in Mists of Pandaria: each one now requires higher level materials from the current expansion. Read on for more information about each specialization and how to unlock them in MoP Classic.
Choosing Your Alchemy Specialization
When you have reached 475 skill level in Alchemy, three quests will become available to you. These quests have no character level requirement, so you can pick them up as soon as you have leveled the profession far enough. If you already have an Alchemy specialization, you will not be able to pick up these quests, including if you obtained your specialization before Mists of Pandaria.
An Alchemy Trainer in any of your faction’s four major cities will offer all three specialization quests:
Alliance
- Lilyssia Nightbreeze at The Mage Quarter in Stormwind
/way Stormwind City 55.6, 85.8
- Tally Berryfizz at Tinker Town in Ironforge
/way Ironforge 67.2, 54.2
- Ainethil at Craftsmen’s Terrace in Darnassus
/way Darnassus 54.0, 38.6
- Lucc at The Vault of Lights in The Exodar
/way The Exodar 28.6, 61.2
Horde
- Yelmak at The Drag in Orgrimmar
/way Orgrimmar 55.6, 45.8
- Bena Winterhoof at The Middle Rise in Thunder Bluff
/way Thunder Bluff 46.8, 33.4
- Doctor Herbert Halsey at The Apothecarium in Undercity
/way Undercity 47.6, 73.0
- Camberon at Court of the Sun in Silvermoon City
/way Silvermoon City 66.8, 17.8
You can only have one specialization at a time. You can change specializations later on, but you will have to turn in materials again to pick up a new specialization, so it’s not free.
Note that while the items that are required for each quest must be crafted with higher levels of Alchemy, you do not need to make them yourself. You can obtain them from a higher level Alchemist in order to have access to your specialization while you finish leveling your skill.
Elixir Master
The Elixir Master quest grants the Elixir Master specialization, allowing you to produce more flasks and elixirs every time you craft them.
Here are the items you will need to complete the quest and the total materials required to craft them all:
Item | Total Materials |
---|---|
Flask of Spring Blossoms x2 | – Snow Lily x8 – Golden Lotus x2 – Crystal Vial x2 |
Flask of the Earth x2 | – Rain Poppy x8 – Golden Lotus x2 – Crystal Vial x2 |
Flask of the Warm Sun x2 | – Silkweed x8 – Golden Lotus x2 – Crystal Vial x2 |
Flask of Winter’s Bite x2 | – Fool’s Cap x8 – Golden Lotus x2 – Crystal Vial x2 |
Potion Master
The Potion Master quest grants the Potion Master specialization, allowing you to produce additional potions every time you craft them.
Here are the items you will need to complete this quest and the total materials required to craft them all:
Item | Total Materials |
---|---|
Master Healing Potion x20 | – Green Tea Leaf x20 – Crystal Vial x20 |
Master Mana Potion x20 | – Snow Lily x10 – Green Tea Leaf x10 – Fool’s Cap x10 – Crystal Vial x20 |
Potion of Luck x2 | – Golden Lotus x2 – Crystal Vial x2 |
Transmutation Master
The Transmutation Master quest grants the Transmutation Master specialization, allowing you to sometimes produce extra items with a transmute recipe.
This quest only requires x4 of one item, but that item can only be made via Transmute once per day:
Item | Total Materials |
---|---|
Living Steel x4 | Trillium Bar x24 |
How to Change Your Alchemy Specialization
To change your Alchemy specialization, open the Professions tab of your spellbook and click on the red icon next to the specialization. Do not click on the red icon next to the skill bar, as this will cause you to un-learn Alchemy altogether and lose all of your skill and recipes!
This will remove the specialization, and you will be able to pick up one of the three quests above to obtain a new one.
