Alchemy Leveling Guide 1-600
Alchemy is a tried-and-true money maker in Mists of Pandaria since every character needs a steady stream of consumables to perform their best. In addition to all of the flasks, elixirs, and potions you’ll be able to make, you can also perform valuable transmutations.
When you choose to take up Alchemy, it’s prudent to have a character with Herb Gathering so you can collect all of the herbs that you will be using in your concoctions. Without it, you will be buying most of your materials on the Auction House. We’ve listed the herbs that are needed for leveling in this guide, but you will also be using many more if you plan to do any crafting at endgame. Be sure to take a look at our Herbalism Leveling Guide if you will be leveling both professions side by side.
If you maxed out your Alchemy skill in Cataclysm, you can skip most of the level ranges and start at the Zen Master section.
Tips for Leveling Alchemy
- It’s always worth checking the Auction House for cheap herbs before you go gathering or crafting them yourself.
- Picking up an Alchemy Specialization once you reach skill level 475 will give you a chance to produce extra items when crafting.
- Use the Filter button in the Alchemy window and click “Has skill up” to only show recipes that will give you skill points. This will make it a lot easier to scroll through your options.
- Feel free to craft different recipes based on the materials you happen to have on hand or what happens to be cheap on your Auction House.
- Don’t forget the Darkmoon Faire quest, A Fizzy Fusion, which can be completed every time the Darkmoon Faire is active (every two weeks in WoW Classic). This quest requires a minimum skill level of 75 and grants 5 skill points upon completion.

At 165 we recommend crafting a bunch of Lesser Invisibility Potions since they are quite useful and valuable even at level 90! You could also craft more Greater Healing Potion and/or Mana Potion followed by Elixir of Agility, Elixir of Fortitude, or Shadow Oil depending on available materials.

Mighty Rage Potion becomes available at skill level 255, which can be an incredibly useful alternative for Warriors and only requires 1 more Gromsblood to craft instead of Elixir of Detect Demon.
Superior Mana Potion is a good alternative to Elixir of the Sages at 270 if the materials are more convenient, followed by Major Healing Potion at 275.

Northrend Alchemy Research becomes available at 315 skill level. This ability has a 3-day cooldown and will teach you a Northrend-level recipe each time you use it. You do not need to do this for leveling or even for endgame purposes, but if you would like to unlock all of the Alchemy recipes in the game, you will need to use it.
Adept’s Elixir or Onslaught Elixir can be made instead of Volatile Healing Potion if those materials are easier to get.
You will need to obtain a recipe to make Super Mana Potion at skill level 340. You could opt to craft more Super Healing Potion instead, but you may need to make quite a few of them since the recipe will turn green.

Zen Master 500-600
Zen Master Alchemy requires character level 80 and Alchemy level 500 to learn.
Crafting your Zen Alchemist Stone early will give you 5 skill points and a solid endgame trinket, and you’ll be able to use it in place of a Philosopher’s Stone for your transmutation recipes.
There are only a few Pandaria recipes available at the Alchemy Trainer. The rest must be discovered by crafting other recipes. You can start by making Alchemist’s Rejuvenation or Master Healing Potion. Use the recipes you discover while crafting those to continue leveling. You should discover more recipes while crafting those discovered recipes, and so on. Your discovered recipes will be random, so unfortunately we can’t give you a specific list of materials for this tier.
Your first set of discovered recipes will turn yellow at 540 and green at 550. Around 550 you should discover your first recipe of the next set, which will be orange, so you should switch to that. Around 575 you should discover Master Mana Potion, just as the previous set turns green at 577.
You will discover flask and transmute recipes starting at 550, but they will be more expensive to craft than potions or elixirs. Crafting single-point potions and elixirs will give you the most chances to discover additional recipes.
