Blizzard’s first foray into the mobile gaming market with 2014’s Hearthstone was a massive success, but the company didn’t really delve much into that market much after that. There was rampant speculation after Blizzard’s 2021 Q2 financial report confirmed that 2 mobile Warcraft games in development, but for a while now the only concrete mobile Blizzard game we’ve known of, has been Diablo Immortal.
Alas, no more! Via a post on the official World of Warcraft blog, Blizzard announced that a new mobile game will be getting revealed on May 3rd, 2022, at 10:00 am PDT or 19:00 pm CEST. Players will be able to watch the reveal on Blizzard’s new livestream platforn.
Blizzard fans who frequently game on their phones are undoubtedly excited over this news, and speculation is running rampant once more. Specifically, reports indicate that there were indeed 2 mobile Warcraft games in the world originally: a Pokemon Go type game, and a Clash of Clans type game. Allegedly, the Warcraft Go has been canceled, and so the game to be revealed is the Clash of Warcraft game. Many players are expressing relief over this, believing Pokemon Go to be an unsuitable mode for Warcraft (would it have focused around pet battles?) while the Warcraft series traces its roots to the strategy genre, which Clash is part of to some extent.
But who knows, maybe these reports are false and we get something altogether! Blizzard has been pulling some wildcards lately and it’ll be very exciting to see what this new Warcraft mobile game looks like.
