  • Expansion: WoW Classic

When WoW: Classic was announced at BlizzCon, the content release schedule seemed questionable at best. They’ve since revised the schedule, and now will release content over six different phases, similar to the release of new patches during an expansion.

This will help to create the progression experience, allowing players to slowly ramp up through scaling content rather than heading straight for the raids that drop the best gear right away. This is a feature lost in Retail WoW, considering that players can queue for easier versions of raids through the raid finder, which allows them to get better gear than their character should have.

As Classic WoW will be set in patch 1.12, the six phases of content releases will each feature two patches worth of content. The timeline for the schedule isn’t set yet, but what will be available at each phase has been determined.

Here’s what you’ll see in each phase:

Phase One: This will be what WoW: Classic releases as. It will include the raids and dungeons of Onyxia’s Lair, Molten Core, and Maraudon.

Phase Two: This will the the first update patch for WoW: Classic. Dire Maul will be released, and two world bosses, Azuregos and Kazzak, will be available to slay.

Phase Three: This update will bring some fun elements to WoW: Classic, adding Blackwing Lair, the Darkmoon Fair, and card deck drops for the Darkmoon Fair.

Phase Four: Phase four adds more world bosses, including the four Green Dragons of Nightmare to zones across Azeroth. Zul’Gurub will also make an appearance to the game.

Phase Five: The fifth phase is likely most-anticipated, as it will bring back one of the most iconic moments of World of Warcraft. The Ahn’Qiraj War Effort will begin, and with that the raids of AQ20 and AQ40 will follow.

Phase Six: Although not as popular as AQ, phase six will also be a major update. The Scourge Invasion and the raid of Naxxramas will be added to WoW: Classic at this time.
