In a somewhat surprising turn of events, all 3 of the changes (Morogrim, Lady Vashj, Kael’thas) will be making it live. As a reminder, those are:
- Morogrim Tidewalker’s murloc adds will have reduced health
- Lady Vashj’s mind control ability will no longer make mind controlled players immune to crowd control effects
- Kael’thas is being reverted to his post-nerf state altogether, resulting in several nerfs
All of those changes will be coming with the weekly maintenance of the week of December 14, meaning guilds currently trying to make progress in those raids have just under one month to clear them before they are nerfed.
This announcement surprised many players as the changes were very controversial, with the forum thread on the changes currently having over 1500 replies — an absolutely astounding number of responses for a Classic thread. Reddit is similarly abuzz with discussion on the topic, which shows that players really care about this issue.
The most common piece of feedback by players was that the health of trash mobs should be reduced first, to give struggling guilds more time to make attempts on the final bosses of each raid. Alas it would appear that Blizzard felt that trash nerfs would be inadequate, and that the bosses themselves are the problem.
An educated guess on the topic would be that they’re being this aggressive with the nerfs in order to counteract declining realm populations in anticipation of the phase 3 release, which will most likely be coming soon after that December 14 mark. The timing would work out well, as it would accommodate players returning from Season of Mastery after just over a month of its release. ensuring a constant drip of new content for players to consume.
Hello again! We’ve reached a decision.
We’re going to implement the previously-mentioned adjustments to Morogrim Tidewalker, Lady Vashj, and Kael’thas Sunstrider with weekly maintenance the week of December 14.
Thank you very much for your feedback and discussion. We really appreciate it.
