After over a month of total silence on the subject, Blizzard finally chose to officially announce the release of phase 3 content, through a post on their official news blog.
Phase 3 content will be released on 2 separate days: January 17th and January 27th.
The week of January 17th will see the beginning of season 3, following this week’s ending of season 2. Furthermore, the male version of the warlock’s Succubus demonic companion, known as the Incubus, will become available for warlock players to summon.
The tier 6 raids – Mount Hyjal and Black Temple – will be coming on January 27th, along with all of the remaining content we expected to come with in phase 3, such as epic gems and the long-awaited Netherwing daily quests, which ultimately reward players with the fan-favourite Nether Drake mounts.
Blizzard made 2 more announcements: the lengthy attunements for Mount Hyjal and Black Temple are here to stay, and that the tier 5 raids – Serpentshrine Cavern and Tempest Keep: The Eye – will now see bosses dropping 3 tier 5 tokens per boss, rather than the previous 2, which was already increased from a measly 1 from original TBC. This is presumably to help guilds that only cleared these raids for the first time after their nerfs back in early December get more tier items and be better prepared for the harsh challenge of tier 6 content.
Blizzard will surely have caught many players off-guard with this announcement, as they typically announce new content more than 2 weeks in advance. However, there has been a tremendous amount of hype for phase 3 content, so most players surely won’t mind.
What are your thoughts on this topic? Are you excited about the new content finally being announced, or do you wish that Blizzard had given us more of a warning in order to be better prepared for it? Let us know in the comments below!
