Engineering Specializations: Gnomish & Goblin Engineering

In MoP Classic, characters with the Engineering profession can choose from two crafting specializations with unique schematics: Gnomish Engineering and Goblin Engineering. These specializations are still quite relevant in the Mists of Pandaria expansion, with each offering its own mount and teleportation devices. We’ll cover how to unlock or change your Engineering specialization as well as what each one has to offer in the sections below.

Note that the Membership Cards from previous expansion are no longer needed. You won’t have to renew them to continue crafting with your specialization.

Gnomish vs. Goblin Engineering

You should choose your Engineering specialization based on the items you would like to craft. The only new recipes for the specializations in Mists of Pandaria are the mounts. Otherwise the biggest practical difference will be which transporter locations are more useful for you. Gnomish Engineering has more gadgets (toys and Waist equipment) while Goblin Engineering offers some low-level bombs and Goblin Jumper Cables XL.

Learning a Specialization

To learn a specialization, you’ll first need to have at least 200 skill level in the Engineering profession. Then you can visit a specific Engineering Trainer in your faction’s capital city to pick up the appropriate quest for your chosen specialization: Gnomish Engineering or Goblin Engineering.

  • Wow Alliance Crest Lilliam Sparkspindle at the Dwarven District in Stormwind City (62.8, 32.2).
  • Roxxik at The Drag in Orgrimmar (56.8, 56.4).

These quests will task you with turning in a list of items that can be crafted with Engineering. You can make these yourself or purchase them on the Auction House. How to Change Your Specialization

To change your Engineering specialization, open the Professions tab of your spellbook and click on the red icon next to the specialization. Do not click on the red icon next to the skill bar, as this will cause you to un-learn Engineering altogether and lose all of your skill and schematics! This will remove the specialization, and you will be able to pick up one of the two quests above to obtain a new one. The unlearn specialization button for Engineering
